St. John’s Summer Music Program is a free program which offers music lessons to any child or adult in our community. A college student who is majoring in music is hired to give these lessons (typically Monday through Thursday). Piano is always offered along with whatever instruments the teacher can handle (usually most band instruments). We even have a handful of instruments on hand that a student can use for the summer.

This is a good, no risk, way for your child to keep the rust off during the summer months (if they have lessons during the school year) or to dip a toe into the musical world (if they have never tried an instrument before). More importantly it is an avenue into the great world of music and God’s connection to this wonderful art. What better way to enjoy God’s beauty than music and his Word?

Hannah Caauwe, 2023 Teacher

Hannah Caauwe majors in church music at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN. There she is involved in nearly every musical ensemble on campus: Concert Choir, Handbells, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, and Jazz Ensemble. She is also a regular chapel organist and occasionally plays organ for area church services.

She is looking forward to working with students of all kinds this summer to take their musical skills to the next level and to give beginners a great introduction to the world of music.

Bible and Music Academy

During the summer we also offer a Bible and Music Academy on Monday nights.  From 5:30 to 7:30 pm all are invited to come and learn some basic music theory, practice singing, learn about the Bible, eat a light supper, and have some fun!

Every Sunday at St. John’s, kids have the opportunity to play music at two spots in the Divine Service. Below are some great resources for hymn-based piano music for young music students. We have copies of all these at church to be borrowed, but links are provided here if you wish to have copies of your own.
